Curriculum Statement
At Edge Hill Academy, the curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.
Our aim is to provide a wide range of memorable learning experiences which resonate with children so that they are inspired to learn and to extend their horizons. The curriculum provides a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities set in the context of meaningful, real-life experiences taking advantage of historical, geographical and environmental opportunities available within the local area. Crucially, the curriculum will deepen children’s understanding, meeting their needs both personally and intellectually.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We constantly provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.
We provide a broad and balanced curriculum to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
Through a positive culture and caring environment, we provide the opportunity for every child to reach their full potential. We embrace British values and ensure all children are ready for their next steps.
The curriculum is well-planned, carefully structured and sequenced over the long-term. There are clear endpoints, appropriate coverage and content and identification of the knowledge being cumulatively built (within and across year groups).
Learning Outside the Classroom and community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum so we make maximum use of the outside environment to enrich all pupils opportunities and experiences and celebrate local traditions, learning new skills to enable the children to take an active role in events throughout the year.
Children will leave the academy with a sense of belonging to a tightly knit community where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
